Philip Harrington was born on June 16, 1931, in Worcester, MA, and moved to Ludlow, MA in 1963. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Helena “Dennis” White Harrington, with whom he shared a loving marriage for 58 years until her passing in 2016. Together, they raised three proud sons: Michael and wife Patty , Joesph and wife Darcy , James (Chip) and wife Noel. 8 Grandchildren . Matthew, Katlyn (O’Brien) , Breonna (Mucciarone) , Sean , Ryan , Angela, Connor and Riley Harrington. 6 Great Grandchildren Hannah, Hudson , Claire, Luca , Declan and Camila.
Philip had a lifelong passion for sports, especially baseball. He notably tried out for the Boston Braves and dedicated many years to coaching youth baseball at the Boys & Girls Club in Ludlow, sharing his love of the game with young players. A true fan of the sport, one of his favorite places was Fenway Park, where he cherished watching the Red Sox play.
In addition to his love for sports, Philip was an avid music enthusiast. He had a remarkable record collection, particularly fond of his jazz albums. His interests extended to his family heritage, as he took pride in being one of the few grandsons of a Civil War veteran, with his grandfather having fought in the war.
Philip enjoyed spending time at his beloved lake house on Mountain View Lake in Sunapee, NH, a retreat he owned for more than a decade. Professionally, he had a successful career in sales for 30 years before concluding his work life as an institutional security officer at Westfield State University.
Known for his great sense of humor and quick wit, Philip touched the lives of many around him. He will be remembered fondly for his dedication to family, love of sports, and passion for music.
A special Thank You! to the Staff at Vantage Nursing Home and Baystate Hospice care. Funeral services for Philip will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00am in Ludlow Funeral Home followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, August 23rd from 5:00-7:00pm and preceding the service on Saturday from 10:15-11:00am.
