Obituary for Philomena "Phoebe" (Ferreira) Pereira
Philomena “Phoebe” (Ferreira) Pereira, 86, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2020 at Vero Nursing home in Wilbraham, MA from complications of the Corona Virus, while in the presence of her loving nurses. Born in Hudson, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Virginia (Gasper) Ferreira. She lived most of her life in Ludlow where she was a faithful parishioner and volunteer at St. Elizabeth Parish and the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church. She belonged to the parish’s Women's Guilds and was a member of the former Portuguese American Citizens Club. She worked for many years for Mass Mutual Insurance Company.
Phoebe will be remembered most for her selfless giving to anyone in need.
But most of all, she was a dedicated mother that always put her family first.
Phoebe was the beloved wife of the late Francisco Pereira, Jr.; a loving mother to Cynthia Fuller, & partner Tony Spagnuolo, Diane Wojcik & husband Ronald, Edward Pereira & wife Denise, & Jill Pereira, & partner Joe Goncalves; & “her other daughter” Holly Santos.
She was a cherished VoaVoa to Christopher Graham & wife Meaghan, Brian Fuller & wife Kaitlin; Matthew Graham & wife Lauren; Brittney Pescador & husband Fernando, Kyle Pereira, Tyler Pereira, Alex Pereira, Andrew Pellerin, and Cory Battles & wife Samantha.
She also was the proud great grandmother to Nora Pescador, Colin James Graham, Aurora Battles, and her little angel in heaven, Lucia Mary Fuller.
She was the beloved sister to the late August Ferreira & his wife Mary; and leaves many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at Vero Nursing home, the love and kindness they expressed to our mom will never be forgotten. We would also like to extend a special thank you to those who visited mom regularly during her stay at Vero, lifelong friend, Ezora Gonsalves, son Mark Gonsalves & wife Maria, Anne Fitzpatrick, Emily McMeans, & The Fioravanti family. The Sunday visits with communion from Deacon’s Tom, Bill & John were very much appreciated. We would also like to thank our “second family” Mize Goncalves, Paul & Rui Varandas, for their unwavering support in caring for our mom. Funeral services for Phoebe will be held privately by her family with Ludlow Funeral Home entrusted with her care. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Phoebe’s memory to Autism Connection, (https://autismconnectionsma.org/en/) or Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, Ma. 01104
