Obituary for Ralitsa R. Axas
Ralitsa R. (Alvanos) Axas, 84, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 17th surrounded by her loving family. Born on the Island of Lesvos, Greece, to the late Ioannis and Katerina (Kazas) Alvanos, she immigrated to the United States in 1958. She worked for many years as a seamstress for Buxton Co. from where she retired in 1985 and was a faithful member of St. George Cathedral in Springfield. Ralitsa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her friends and family, especially to watching her 3 grandchildren grow up. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, gardening in her flower beds, sewing, and making Greek desserts for those she loved. Ralitsa was the beloved wife of 62 years to Demosthenes Axas; a loving mother to Theodore Axas and fiance Lynn Anderson, of Ludlow, and Anna Chrisovechotis and husband Kosta, of Brooklyn, CT; a cherished grandmother to Anna Maria Axas, and Panagiotis and Demosthenes Chrisovechotis whom she adored; a dear sister to Stavroulla Konatsou, of Greece; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Sadly, in 2020, Ralitsa was predeceased by her close niece Despina Banizioti, of Lesvos, Greece. Funeral services for Ralitsa were held privately by her family in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org) or St. George Cathedral 22 St. George Road Springfield, MA 01104.
