Obituary for Raul Talaia
Raul Jose Talaia (90) passed away peacefully July 31, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving children. Raul was born in Ablheira, Portugal to the late Jose and Rosa (De Jesus) Talaia. Raul immigrated to the United States in 1960 with his late wife, America (Rebelo) Talaia. He has lived in Indian Orchard and, then, Ludlow for 36 years before moving to Ormond Beach, FL in 1992. He was a former member of the Gremio Lusitano Portuguese Club in Ludlow and the Portuguese American Club in Palm Coast, FL. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, walking, gardening and watching his favorite soccer team, Sporting. He also had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Raul was the beloved husband of the late America Talaia who predeceased him in 2000. He leaves behind his devoted children Gerald Talaia and wife Rebecca, Susan Swift and husband Steve, and Michael Talaia; his sister, Almerinda Talaia; his grandchildren Michael, Rachel, Hannah, Jack, Mark, Kaitlyn and Alaina; great grandchildren Leah, Levi, and Weston. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly. Funeral services for Raul will be held on Tuesday, August 13th from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Family and friends are asked to gather at the Funeral Home at 9:30am, a chapel service will begin at 10:00am with Friar Pedro, followed by a funeral procession to Island Pond Cemetery for burial. Visiting hours are Monday evening August 12th from 5:00-7:00pm and in lieu of flowers please make donations in Raul's memory to: St Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
