Obituary for Richard Allan “Dickie” Manchester
Richard “Dickie” Allan Manchester of Ludlow was called to be with our Lord God Almighty for his eternal life on September 20, 2021, at the age of 75. “Dickie” was a devoted and extraordinary loving husband to his wife Marie R. (Mahan) Manchester for 50 years. Our family had a beautiful celebration in February and they are an example of “True Love”. He was an incredible father to his three children, Heather Marie Manchester, of Wilbraham, Bonnie Anne Manchester, of Chicopee, and Scott Thomas Manchester, of Ludlow and known as “Popi” to his grandchildren Olivia Freitas and Eve Freitas, of Wilbraham who are all going to miss him dearly. He devoted his life to God and was a righteous man which could be seen through his work ethic and love for family. God gave him the gift of art and writing and he never stopped studying his well worn Bible until his last day. He dedicated his time throughout his life to create a comprehensive family genealogy that brought us back to the first Manchester in New England in 1638 and was a true patriot. He retired at the age of 70 and loved spending his time painting, writing poems and Bible studies. His written word will live with all the lives he touched forever.
Dickie was born at home during a snow storm in Chicopee in December 1945 to his late mother Annie Mae (Pratt) Manchester and father Everett Lynwood Manchester. He leaves behind his brother Edwin T. Manchester of Old Lyme, CT and sister Barbara A. Campagna, of Fitchburg, MA. He was proceeded by his brothers Everett Henry, David Harry, John Edward, Wayne Joseph, and his sisters Edith M. Jarry, and Lois L. Benoit. He had so much love for his many nieces and nephews and documented all the milestones in the family. Even though our hearts are broken, we know he sits with his Savior Jesus Christ until we’re all together again in God’s Glorious Kingdom. We love you Dad and have been blessed to have you for a father as you loved our mother well.
Visiting hours for Dickie will be held on Sunday, September 26th from 12:00-1:45pm concluding with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Samaritan’s Purse
