Obituary for Richard E. Howes, Jr.
Richard E. Howes, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 10, 2020. Born in Ludlow, son of the late Richard Sr. and Virginia (Carder) Howes, he was a lifelong resident and in his youth, took lessons playing the bass guitar and slide trombone at Falcetti Music. In 1961, he graduated from Ludlow High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force proudly serving during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years for the Town of Ludlow Cemetery and Tree Departments and for the United States Bulk Mail Center from where he retired in 2005. Within the community, Richard was a member of the First Congregational Church in Ludlow, VFW Post 3236, also serving as past commander, and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Brigham Lodge. Richard leaves many loving family members and dear friends. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, November 19th at 10:00am directly in Hillcrest Park Cemetery (Section I) on Parker St. in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Ludlow, Ma. 01104.
