Obituary for Richard J. 'Dickie' Kolodziey
Richard J. Kolodziey, (Dickie Kolodziey), 69, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2013, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Montague, MA, on July 14, 1943, son of the late William and Delphia Kolodziey. He was a l961 graduate of Ludlow High School, where he was an outstanding three-sport athlete and President of his Senior Class. At this time he had the opportunity to move on to professional level athletics in football and baseball, but decided to continue his education at American International College, where he excelled in football and baseball, holding many records to date. He then went on to receive his Masters Degree from City College of New York. Following his college career, Dickie continued to be involved in semi-professional sports as a player and a coach. He was a long-time teacher at Ludlow High School, retiring in 2000.
In 2007, he was honored as a first class inductee into the Ludlow High School Sports Hall of Fame. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Kara Kolodziey Sawa and Cortney Kolodziey, and his cherished granddaughter, Ella Dae Sawa. He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, William and Jacqueline Kolodziey; his sister, Judith Warzecki; his aunt, Stella Nesbitt of Hinsdale, NH; his nephews, Chris and Greg Kolodziey, Jay and Todd Warzecki; his nieces, Tina Daly and Carolyn Parker; his former wife and dearest friend, Cynthia Blatt, as well as several caring cousins. Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, May 31 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating his life will be on Saturday, June 1, beginning at 9:00AM, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Christ the King Church in Ludlow at 10:00AM.
Family and friends are asked to gather for a graveside service to be held on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 10:00am in Island Pond Cemetery.
