Obituary for Richard Joseph Dietrich
Richard J. Dietrich, 92, passed away on February 10, 2018 at his home in Ludlow. He was born in 1925 in Boston Massachusetts to the late Richard and Catherine (O'Brien) Dietrich. He served his country with the United States Navy from January 1943 until an honorable discharge in September 1946. He then joined the Springfield fire Department in December 1946, where he became a very well respected firefighter throughout his career, retiring as a lieutenant after 34 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife Nancy (Munger) Dietrich and his brother Robert Dietrich and his wife Barbara. He leaves his long time dance partner Marie Galetta of chicopee, his sister Marlene Nagel of Springfield and his brother Paul of Brooksville, Florida. He also leaves three sons Richard, John (Debra), Jim (Dawn) and four stepdaughters Celeste Chenier (James), Michelle Crawford (Brian), Lori Gauthier and Cheryl Lenville he also leaves nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Always one to enjoy life, he took up dancing and was doing that up until the end. When it came to work whether he had a chainsaw or a snow shovel in his hand, he was adamant he could still do it, and he could! He enjoyed his life, and his friends enjoyed being around him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are Friday morning from 10:15am-12:15pm with a Chapel Service beginning at 12:15pm. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at promptly 2:00pm.
