Obituary for Richard Walas Sr.
Richard S Walas Sr., 66, of East Longmeadow was called home to be with God on Friday May 27, 2016. Born in Ludlow he was a long time resident of East Longmeadow and a former communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard. Richard worked for many years at Lego and was a proud member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Wilbraham. He served his country honorably in the Vietnam War, he was with the 212th Military Police Sentry Dog Company. He received several commendations including the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He was the son of Helen Simonowicz and the late Stephen F. Walas of Wilbraham. He leaves his beloved wife Nancy (Polys) Walas of East Longmeadow; loving children Richard S. Walas Jr and his wife Amy of East Longmeadow and Sarah T. Lewelling and her husband Kevin of Palmdale, CA; grandchildren Elizabeth, Jonathan and Christopher Lewelling and Erin Sewell and her husband Dallas; great-granddaughter Amelia Sewell as well as his sisters-in-law Theresa Syriac and husband Ray, Karen Brown and husband Jim and brothers-in-law Joe Polys and wife Diane and Ted Polys and wife Louise and extended family and friends. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am in Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Wednesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers it was the wish of Richard's family that donations can be made in his name to: Alzheimer's Association @ alz.org.
