Obituary for Rita J. (Morissette) Lauzon
Rita J. (Morissette) Lauzon, a 45 year resident of Ludlow, died peacefully on January 25, 2013 at the age 91, after living a long, full life. Among the list of many things in Rita's life to be proud of were the apple pies and chocolate cakes she baked from scratch, the many quilts, afghans, hats and mittens knitted with love, the huge family picnics, 27 years of doing ceramics at the Ludlow Senior Center and the good friends she made there. Also, Rita was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church, now known as St. Elizabeth Parish, where Monsignor Gosselin was a good friend and spiritual guide to her.
Born in Canada in 1921, daughter of Emerilda and Aristide Morissette, Rita was the eldest of 5 siblings, Rita, Roger, Patrick, Cecile, and Georgette. She married John J. Lauzon on January 24, 1942 and together they moved to the United States where they lived in MA, then CA, before settling back in MA to raise their 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. Rita was widowed in February of 1981, and to date has 26 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson, of which she was most boastful about.
From oldest to youngest Rita's children are: Richard Lauzon and his family Anthony, Alexander and Caroline; Jacqueline Wheatley an her family, Nora, Elizabeth, Ira, AJ, KC, Shawn, Jocelyn, Erin, Ira, Abigail and Zekayn; Patricia Holley and her family, Terry, Tina, Tracey, Jennifer, Dawn, Samantha, Amanda, Heather, Chad, Meghan, Xavier, Arden, and Tatiana; Marcel and Dixie Lauzon and their family, Colette, Colby, Devin, and Brynn; Roger and Cathy Lauzon; Laurette and Ken Lavigne and their family Marc, Danielle, Rebecca, and Alexa; Kathleen and Hank Banas and their family Christopher, Jason, Lisa, John, Alexander, Edward, and Joseph; Roland Lauzon and his family and his Steven Scott; Henry Lauzon; Elizabeth Sarrette and her family Gregory, Nichole and Jacob; John and Maureen Lauzon and their family Jessica and Yvette; and Annette and Steven LeBlanc and their family Thomas, Timothy and Matthew. Rita also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends throughout the United States and Canada.
When visiting our mom, she loved to hear our stories. All she could talk about was our family and it's trials and trivialities, but mostly our successes in life. We'll miss you very much Mom. We will miss your warm quilts and delicious apple pies. We'll miss having a cup of tea with you and listening to your adorable French accent. We'll miss how your face lit up when you held a new baby and how you'd fix a treat for your children when we'd come to visit. We'll miss your stories about your own childhood that you'd tell as if they'd just happened. We love you Mom, now you can rest. We know how you'll have a special place in Heaven with your parents and with God. Please watch over us as we carry on your legacy, as we know that you'll always want the best for us.
Funeral services for Rita will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 3:00-6:00pm.
