Rita Hogan, 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on May 3rd. She was born on October 27, 1949, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Raymond and Rita (Scott) Viens.
Rita was the devoted wife of the late John P. Hogan, with whom she shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. She leaves behind her three sons and their families: John and Lisa Hogan, Michael and Ashleigh Hogan, and Robert and Samalid Hogan. Rita was a proud and loving grandmother to Melissa, Michael, Corey, Alina, Sophia, Nathaniel, Lillian, and Callie, who were a constant source of joy and light in her life. She cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. She is also survived by her siblings, Mary Anne Quinn, Kathleen Ziemba, and Raymond Viens, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Rita grew up in Springfield and later moved with her family to Ludlow during the time Electric Park was being developed. She fondly reminisced often about her childhood there and the many family gatherings held at her parents' home—memories she carried with her throughout her life.
A dedicated homemaker and the heart of her family, Rita found great happiness in hosting holidays and bringing loved ones together. She was known for her delicious home cooking, especially her baked beans, potato salad, and "cheesy" potatoes—favorites at many family gatherings. Rita made every holiday, birthday, and milestone special. She always went above and beyond to create meaningful and joyful celebrations. Her love was most clearly expressed through these moments, and her presence will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Rita's life at Ludlow Funeral Home on Thursday May 7th. Visiting hours are 9-10:45am with a service at 11am with a procession to Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
