Obituary for Rita (Vitali) Mei
Rita (Vitali) Mei, 90, of Ludlow was called home to be with God on Monday July 15, 2019. Born in Fano, Italy to the late Virginio and Rosa (Magi) Vitali, she emigrated to Ludlow in 1952. Rita was a faithful parishioner of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Ludlow and belonged to its Ladies Guild and the Italian Social Club. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Enrico, who passed away in 1988. Rita leaves her loving daughters; Joanne Mei Collard of Atlanta and Rose Marie Ziemba of Ludlow; adored grandchildren Robert Ziemba Jr. and Gabriella Collard; her dear brother Carlo Vitali (deceased) of Italy and sister Assumpta Vitali (deceased) also of Italy. Rita operated several restaurants in Ludlow in the 1970s, including the kitchen at the Ludlow Fish and Game Club, Ludlow Italian Kitchen, and Rita’s Coffee Shop. She will be remembered for her cooking and the love she bestowed on everyone who met her. Funeral services for Rita will be held on Friday July 19, 2019 at 8:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 9:00am in St. Elizabeth’s Parish followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00pm.
