Obituary for Robert "Bob" Saunders
Robert “Bob” Saunders, 57, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 3, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Arthur and Virginia Saunders, he grew up in Derby before moving to the Springfield area where he graduated from AIC. Bob then attended the Masters of Education program at Springfield College and the Educational Psychology Doctoral Program at UMass Amherst. He and his wife Ruth settled in Ludlow and he worked for many years as a family therapist at Span Center in Agawam and Valley Human Services in Ware before opening his own practice in Ludlow. Bob had a great love for music; especially Bob Dylan, and playing the guitar. He was an avid baseball fan, fisherman and outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking, camping and Quabbin Reservoir. He especially loved being a therapist and helping people; but most of all, he loved being a devoted husband and father. Bob was the beloved husband of 33 years to Ruth (Gitlin) Saunders; a loving father to Aaron and Daniel Saunders, both of Ludlow, a dear cousin to Betty Guarino, of Sandy Hook, CT, and a caring friend to many. His family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Baystate Visiting Nurses and the Ludlow Town nurses for all of their care and support throughout Bob’s illness. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening at Ludlow Funeral Home from 5-6:45pm concluding with a Celebration of Life Service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society 101A First Avenue - Suite 6 Waltham , MA 02451-1115
