Obituary for Roderick F. Drown
Roderick F. Drown 84, of Ludlow passed away peacefully November 26, 2011 at Mercy Hospital. Born on May 4, 1927 in Lyndon, Vt. he was the son of the late Burleigh F. Drown and Goldie Mae Blake. He lived in Vermont most of his childhood attending school there then he and his family moved to Holyoke, MA. where he continued school. Roderick served in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked at David O'Connell Construction Company of Holyoke, Gamelli Construction Company for a short time then Uniroyal Tire Co, for 29 years. During his latter years at Uniroyal he became an electrician and after Uniroyal of Chicopee Falls closed, he worked as an electrician at Smith and Wesson for 11 years. He was loved dearly by his wife Sally Mae (Jorey) Drown spending 63 years together; sons Robert F. Drown and his wife Carol of Palmer, Raymond C. Drown and his wife Anne of Ludlow and a daughter Jane Mae Rodrigues and her husband Michael; granddaughters Lalaine McCarthy and husband Robert McCarthy Jr., Jennifer Marie Drown, Katelyn Anne Drown and Emily Ann Drown; Step-grandsons Peter Merceri, Randy Merceri, Joshua Rodrigues and Jonathan Rodrigues; 2 great-grandsons Casey James McCarthy and Shane Patrick McCarthy; step great-grandsons Joseph Merceri, Chance Merceri, Victor Rodrigues and Trevor Santos. Roderick was a good and kind man, well liked and loved by many. He also leaves behind his step-sister Avis Pauly, step-brother Sidney A. Brown Jr. and his wife Denise, a half brother Clyde and his wife Marilyn and a half sister Delores A. Stewart; many caring nieces, nephews, half nieces and nephews and step-nieces and nephews, as well as his brother-in-law Harold Jorey and wife Sandra their family, and a cousin by marriage, Sonja M. Jorey. Sadly he will miss his cat squeaky. Visiting hours for Roderick will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 3:00-7:00pm concluding with a Celebration of Life Service at 7:00pm with Reverend Frank Grogett officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Ludlow Funeral Home and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements, 432 East Street, Ludlow.
