Obituary for Roger Savoie
Roger Savoie, 80, of Ludlow was called safely home to be with God on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Born in Ludlow to the late Rene and Emillana (Fontaine) Savoie, he was a life long resident graduating from St. John the Baptist School and Springfield Trade School. He was a faithful communicant of St. Elizabeth Catholic Community, where he served as an usher. Roger loved his country, serving honorably in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 47 years at Monsanto in the Local Chemical Workers Union 414 before being promoted to maintenance supervisor and was also the owner and operator of Roger Savoie and Son Trucking. Roger was past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Ludlow Council 3535 where he served as treasurer for more than 25 years and a member of the Ludlow VFW Post 3236 serving on the honor guard. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, enjoyed hunting, volunteering in the community and could often be seen at Randalls Farm selling Tootsie Rolls and Poppies. He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years Mary “Mimi” (Miranda) Savoie of Ludlow; loving children Kathleen Buldini and her husband Bill of Haines City, Florida and Keith Savoie and his wife Debra of Feeding Hills; caring brothers Rene Savoie and wife Myrtle of Vermont, Roland Savoie and wife Janice of Ludlow and a sister Rita Beaudry and her husband Larry of Ludlow; dear sisters-in-laws Lucy Chenaille of Ocala, Florida and Hazel Lima of Ludlow along with many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Monday November 21, 2011 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth Church with burial to follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday evening from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers Rogers’ family has asked that donations be made in his name to St. Elizabeth Catholic Community.
