Obituary for Roland P. Savoie

Roland P. Savoie, 92 passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024. Born in Ludlow, MA on October 30, 1931, he was the son of the late Rene W. Savoie and Emiliana (Fontaine) Savoie. Roland was predeceased by his bothers Rene and Roger, and his sister Rita. A graduate of Springfield Trade High School, he went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Marine Corps where he began his life of service. He married the love of his life, the late Janice Giacomelli in 1954. They spent 63 wonderful years together before her passing in 2017. After his discharge, Roland worked at Shawinigan Resins, which became Monsanto Corporation until his retirement in 1991 after 38 years. He was a servant of the Lord and dedicated himself to service. Roland was an usher at Bethany Assembly of God and operated the Best Life Food Ministry for 20 years along with his wife. Together they volunteered with several other food ministries to help those in need. He had a giving spirit and would always help in any way if there was a need. Roland crafted bug boxes and bird houses for children in outreach programs sponsored by the Church. For ten years, Roland traveled to Central America as a part of a team to build schools. On these trips he often played with children and was known for giving them toys and T-shirts. He was a proud member of the Massachusetts Volunteer Firing Party at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery for 20 twenty years and served at over 4,000 funerals. He was also a member of the VFW Post 3236 Honor guard. Roland was recognized for his service and was named along with his twin brother Roger parade Marshalls for the 2008 Memorial Day parade in Ludlow and was chosen Veteran of the Year in 2013 by the Director of Veterans Services Roland is survived by his loving children, Charlene (Edward), Craig (Tracy) and Clay (Marjorie), eight grandchildren; Stephen, Meredith, Jaime, Kristen, Courtney, Michael, Brielle, and Carina; and great grandchildren, Alex, Riley, Jameson. Braeden and Griffin, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Agawam, MA on Friday April 19th, 2024, at 3:00pm
