Obituary for Samuel J. Vadnais

Samuel J. Vadnais, 37, of Ludlow, affectionately known as “V” passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2023. Sam was the beloved son of Pamela (Morse) Vadnais and late husband Andre Vadnais, who predeceased him in April of 2022.

Sam was a graduate of St. John the Baptist School and Pathfinder High School and in 2007, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island in South Carolina and following training, PFC Vadnais attended the School of Infantry and graduated as an Infantry Assaultman. He was assigned to 1st Tank Battalion, headquarters and services company, TOW Platoon, Stryker section. In 2008, Lance Corporal Vadnais deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 8-9 as a part of 1st marine expeditionary force, regimental combat team 7, 1st tank battalion, alpha company, TOW platoon, Stryker section. In 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10-11 as a part of 1st Marine expeditionary Force, 1st Tank Battalion, Tow Plt, Stryker section. Sam was a decorated Veteran who’s selfless service to his country ended in 2011 when he Honorably discharged from the Marines and returned home to his loving family. Sam's love for his country and his brothers however, never ended.

He enjoyed playing poker on Friday nights and going on adventures with his wife and children, especially to the beach; but above all, Sam was a family man whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, friends, and their families. Sam was the beloved husband of Chelsey Vadnais and a devoted step-father to Chase and Jack; and also leaves his brother Chad Sullivan; grandfather Irving Morse, in-laws Donald and Sanrda Venne; many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, February 6th. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:15am in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth Parish, followed by interment with Military Honors at 1:00pm in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Due to cemetery restrictions, the family has requested to please make donations in Sam’s memory in lieu of flowers to stopsoldiersuicide.org
