Santa (Mattei) Nataloni, of Wilbraham, entered into Eternal Rest on July 29, 2025 just 24 days before her 103rd birthday. She was born on August 22, 1922 in Coldipeccio Province of Perugia, Umbria, Italy, and was the only daughter of Francesco and Angela (Santarrelli) Mattei. Santa immigrated to the United States aboard The Giulio Cesare on July 5, 1958, with her son Curio, to meet her husband Nazarreno who came to the U.S. 2 ½ years earlier. They settled in Ludlow where she was a member of the former Italian Ladies Club and a devoted communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Upon the church’s closing, she became a member of St. Cecilia Parish in Wilbraham. She worked as a seamstress for various area manufacturing companies, but her greatest love was for her family. Her life’s aspiration was to always have her children walk out of their home with a smile and to always greet them with her smile when they returned. She also loved cooking for her family, especially Italian sausage and tortellini, which she also sold. She and her husband always planted a garden and grew every vegetable you could think of and no one ever left their home without a bag of freshly picked vegetables.
Santa was the beloved wife of 55 years to the late Nazzareno, who predeceased her in 1998; a devoted mother to sons Curio Nataloni and wife Gloria, and Frank Nataloni and wife Joan, all of Wilbraham; a loving grandmother to 3 grandsons David (Devon) of Melrose, Michael (Alexandra) of East Longmeadow, and Matthew (Eleanora) of Wilbraham; a cherished great-grandmother to Vincent and Emilia; a dear sister to the late Nazzareno and Bruno Mattei, both of Italy; and also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services for Santa will be held on Tuesday, August 5th. Visitation is from 9:00-10:00am at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Cecilia Parish followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Santa’s memory to St Cecilia Parish.
