Obituary for Saul Chelo
Saul Chelo, 53, of Ludlow, died peacefully on March 20, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his father João Vaz Chelo Jr. in 1990, and is survived by his devoted mother Lucinda (Aleixo) Chelo. Born in Santo Andre, Portugal, he lived most of his life in Ludlow where he was a graduate of Ludlow High School. He was employed as a program supervisor for many years at the Gandara Center and most recently worked for the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department. Saul was an avid soccer player, fan, and also a proud coach for the Lusitano girls, STCC, and Ludlow High School varsity girls team leading them to their only State Championship. He will be affectionately remembered for his love of The Beatles, Paul McCartney, traveling, frequenting Pizza Corner, and especially for being a jokester who always told the best jokes. Saul was the caring brother to John Chelo & his fiancée Candida Ferreira, Augusto Chelo & his wife Grace, Anna Martins & her husband Tony, and the late Antonio and Manny Chelo, all of Ludlow. Saul will be missed by his many loving nieces and nephews: Jason Chelo and Katie Greener, Kevin Chelo and Angela Martins, Nancy Coelho & her husband Danny, Christopher Chelo and wife Veronica, Jennifer Estrada and husband Frank, Goddaughter Alexia Chelo, Nicholas Chelo and wife Emmely, and Beatriz Chelo; & grand-nieces and nephews: Alexander and Mason Coelho, Aidan and Jordyn Chelo, Nina Chelo, Jax Maldonado, and Lucas Estrada; and also several aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many friends throughout the community. Saul’s family wished to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Baystate Medical Center for their exceptional care. Funeral services for Saul will be held on Saturday, March 26th. Visiting hours are from 9:00-10:15 in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
