Obituary for Shirley (Collings) Fitzgerald
Shirley (Collings) Fitzgerald, 83, of Ludlow was called home to be with God on Sunday, December 9, 2018. Born in Springfield to the late Ernest and Pauline (Dustin) Collings she was a long time Ludlow resident and a former communicate of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Ludlow, she also worked for the Ludlow Public Schools in food service until her retirement in 1995. Shirley was a member of the Ludlow Red Hats and volunteered for the Girl Scouts for 42 years and the American Red Cross blood program. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Fitzgerald who predeceased her in 2014. She leaves her loving children Armand Roy, of Appleton WI., Sandra Shaw of Florence SC., Cynthia Hopkins of Ludlow and Jennifer Fitzgerald of Three Rivers; her dear brother Edward Collings and sisters Helen Cannamela, Edith Tipton, Edna von Husen and Paula Chartier; as well as her cherished 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Tuesday December 18th, 2018 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth Church followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm. In lieu of flowers it was the wish of Shirley’s family that donations be made in her memory to Shriners Children Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.
