Obituary for Shirley J. (Mills) Matthess
Shirley J. (Mills) Matthess, 91, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2019 with her loving family by her side. Shirley was a longtime Ludlow resident and worked for over 30 years as a CNA for Birch Manor Nursing Home. She was also a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, also belonging to its women's organization, and was a proud member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Richard A. Matthess who predeceased her in 2001. She leaves her loving sons Albert A. Matthess and wife Cheryl, of Ludlow, and Steven R. Matthess and girlfriend Donna D’Amato, of Franklin, CT; 4 cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Matthess; Jennifer Cardona and husband Pedro; Andrew Matthess and wife Jessie, and Aaron Matthess; her adored great-grandchildren Gabriel, Jaxson, Juliette, Aiden, Haley, and Olivia; and also leaves Cindy Matthess (mother of Andrew and Aaron); several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Visiting hours for Shirley are on Tuesday, December 3rd from 10:00-10:45am in Ludlow Funeral Home concluding with a funeral home chapel service at 11:00am followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's memory to The Jimmy Fund (www.jimmyfund.org)
