Obituary for Sra. Maria Amelia (Zina) Santos
Sra. Maria Amelia (Zina) Santos, 95, of Indian Orchard, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sobral da Lagoa, Portugal, she immigrated to the United States in 1968 and settled in Indian Orchard. Sra. Amelia worked for many years at Chicopee Undergarment before retiring and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Sra. Amelia was the beloved wife of the late Jaime Batista Santos, who predeceased her in 1977; a loving mother to Rosa Santos, of Ludlow, the late Arlinda Zina and her widower Jose Zina, and his companion Carlota, of Gloucester, and Luis Nico, of Rhode Island; a devoted Vo to George Zina and wife Laura, Michael Zina, Christina Santos-Howe and husband Mark, Helder Santos and wife Heather, and Melissa and Crystal Nico; a cherished great-grandmother to Andrew, Kaytlyn, Torcato, Antonio, Rylee, Joseph, and Amelia; great-great grandmother to Jaxon; a dear sister to Lurdes Zina Pimpao, of Portugal, and the late Torcato, Joao, Custodia, Jose, and Antonio; and also leaves many loving extended family members, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, both here and in Portugal. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Wingate of Wilbraham for the exceptional care and compassion that they provided. Funeral services for Sra. Amelia are on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Visiting hours are from 8:30-10:15 in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made in Sra. Amelia’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
