Obituary for Steve Pawlin
Steve W. Pawlin, 91, of Banning, CA passed away on April 3, 2014. He was born in Ludlow, MA on July 20, 1922, the son of the late Peter and Julia (Ferenz) Pawlin. He was a graduate of Ludlow High School and lived in Ludlow until June 2005, when he moved to Auburndale, Florida. In 2012, he moved to Banning, CA. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served on the U.S.S. Holland and the U.S.S. Samar and attained the rank of Motor Machinist's Mate First Class. His awards include the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Area Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed as an Industrial Engineer at Chapman Division of Crane Company for forty four years and retired in 1983. He coached Pee Wee Baseball for the Ludlow Boy's Club. An avid golfer, he was a former member at numerous country clubs, including Ludlow, Quabog, Cape Cod, and Florida. He also spent 19 years as a snowbird in Myrtle Beach, SC with his wife of 54 years, Rose Pawlin, who passed away on November 3, 2003. He is survived by sons Robert and Suzanne of Banning CA, William and Donna of Agawam MA, and daughter Cheryl and partner Sue Keene of Easthampton, MA. Beloved grandfather to Jillian Pawlin of Doha, Qatar, Ingrid and Phillip Niederer of Banning, CA, Angela Pawlin and her son Gavin of Wilbraham, MA, and Daniel Wilkins of Ludlow, MA. He was adored as great grandfather to Phillip, Aaliyah, Zachery, and Noel Niederer of Banning, CA. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael in 1983 and sister, Anne Kurty in 2009. Would like to extend special thanks to the staff at The Lakes and Hospice in Banning, CA. Calling hours will be Friday, April 25, 2014, from 5-7 PM at the Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street Ludlow, MA. Graveside services with military honors will be held for Steve, on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 11:00am in St. Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue, Indian Orchard, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sts Peter and Paul Ukrainian Church, 45 Newbury Street, Ludlow, MA 01056.
