Obituary for Stillman H. Munger
Stillman H. Munger, 104, Ludlow’s oldest resident, died peacefully at home, Saturday evening, October 6, 2007. Born in Southwick, November 25, 1902 to the late Frederick and Gertrude (Eldridge) Munger, he moved to Springfield at an early age, and was educated in the Springfield School System graduating from Buckingham Junior High School. He was one of the few remaining WW I veterans, having proudly served his country with the US Navy. He had various businesses in Springfield and Ludlow, and in 1940 went to Ct. to work in aircraft for WW II. He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., division of United Technologies in 1967. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Lafayette Consistory of Bridgeport Ct. and Brigham Lodge of Masons of Ludlow, Ma. He then went into the clock and organ repair business. An organ enthusiast, he started lessons at Falcetti Music in Springfield at the age of 95, being the oldest active Lowrey organ student in the United States. He was predeceased by his wife the former Elizabeth Eldridge, a daughter Nancy Ann Dietrich, as well as two brothers and three sisters. He was also predeceased by great grandchildren Heidi Weit and Robert Person. He is survived by 2 daughters; Barbara and her husband Russell Neal of Brooklyn Ct. and Pauline and her husband Donald Stuart of Ludlow, his son-in-law Richard Dietrich of Ludlow. He is also survived by grandchildren, Barbara Murphy, Sharon Person, Susan Stuart, Robert Stuart, Celeste Chenier, Michelle Corbiel-Crawford, Cheryl Lenville and Laurie Gauthier, 12 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 AM at the First Church of Ludlow, with Rev. Frank Groggett officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Island Pond Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Ludlow Funeral Home.
