Obituary for Suzanne Woytych
Suzanne Maurice Woytych, 89, a resident of Ludlow since 1967, died Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Springfield, MA. She was a beloved wife, mother and friend to many. Born in Wisconsin August 14, 1932, she attended St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac, WI & St. Vincent’s College of Nursing in Los Angeles, CA. She married John D. Woytych in 1954 and together they raised their family through his Air Force career which transferred them to many locations across the United States and Canada. She was a former member of St. Mary of the Assumption in Ludlow, joining St. Cecilia of Wilbraham in 2010. Sue was an active member of parish life being involved with the women’s guild, lecturing, the choir and prayer groups. As a CCD teacher she was a past recipient of the St. Pius X medal for dedicated service in religious education. She was active in the Pioneer Valley Girl Scout Council as a former troop leader and day camp counselor. Returning to her beloved nursing profession once her children were grown, she was employed at Ring Nursing Home in Springfield, Wingate of Wilbraham and Mary Lyon Nursing and Rehab Center in Hampden. Sue enjoyed travel, excelled at many hobbies including sewing, calligraphy, ceramics, and scrap booking. She was an excellent cook and baker while instilling the value of homemade meals and family time. Daily habits included watching game shows on TV and the daily crossword puzzle (in pen!). She had many long-lasting friends who she treasured dearly. She is survived by her loving daughters, Ann (Michael) Pieniazek of Worcester, Elizabeth (Fred) Catarino of Ludlow, Jennifer (Mark) Nowak of Wilbraham, Margaret (Michael) MacNeil of Wilbraham, and Ellen (Mark) Schwendenmann of New City, NY. She was blessed with a large loving family including 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Martin J. Woytych and son-in-law Leonard Gonyea in 1991, her beloved husband, John D. Woytych in 1997, his twin brother Richard C. Woytych in 2002 and daughter-in-law Carol Conroy Woytych in 2019. Funeral services for Sue will be held on Tuesday April 26, 2022. Visitation will take place Tuesday morning from 10:00am-12:00pm from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 1:00pm in St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham, followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Sue’s memory to: Hope Ministries at St. Cecilia or Community Survival Center
