Obituary for Theresa M. (Pisarczyk) Kochanek
Theresa M. Kochanek, 86, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2024. Born in New York, NY, on Dec. 8, 1937, to the late Louis Pisarczyk and Catherine (Spiewak) Pisarczyk, she moved to Ludlow, MA, in 1948 where she attended Immaculate Conception School and later graduated from Ludlow High School. Terry was a consummate hostess who loved having family and friends over for dinner and parties. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she was happiest when her home was filled with people, food, singing, laughter, and love. Her pierogies were legendary. Terry enjoyed traveling the world with her friends, and she loved visiting her extended family both near and far. For many years Terry was employed at Ludlow Hospital as a surgical ward clerk. When the hospital closed, she opened her own business, Home of Terry’s Professional Uniforms. Terry and her late husband, Koko, advocated tirelessly for people with special needs and were at the inception of the group home movement in Massachusetts.
Terry was predeceased by her husband, John “Koko” Kochanek, in 2021. She leaves behind her beloved sons, John L. Kochanek, of East Longmeadow, MA, and Lou Kochanek and wife, Sue, of Westfield, MA. She treasured her two grandchildren, Emily M. Kochanek, of Somerville, MA, and Peter N. Kochanek-Rogers (Margaret), of Philadelphia, PA. Terry will also be missed by her three amazing sisters, Louise Bulgajewski (Stephan) of Enfield, CT, Irene Bulgajewski of Broad Brook, CT, and Jane LaFleche (Rene) of West Springfield, MA. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends will miss her gentle kindness and sense of humor, as well. A special note of gratitude goes to her loving caretaker of three years, Cady Grant, who also became part of the family.
Funeral services for Terry will be held in conjunction with her husband Koko who passed away during the Covid pandemic. Visiting hours for them will be held on Friday, June 7th from 6:00-8:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 10:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Christ the King Parish followed by burial together in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
