On July 7, 2023, Thomas F. Moffett, 76, of Pace Florida, passed away with his beloved wife Linda at his side. Early that morning, the clouds lifted and ushered him to heaven.
Tom and Linda married in 1979 and for 21 years resided in Ludlow, Massachusetts. They moved to New Hampshire in 2000 and then to Pace, Florida in 2013 which they have called home ever since.
Throughout his life Tom had many hobbies which included riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing and boating. Tom was an avid boater. While maintaining their home in Pace, he would spend summers on the water in Amesbury aboard his boat the Miss Lin. Every summer, Tom and Linda logged thousands of miles up and down the east coast traveling between Florida and Massachusetts. During these trips, they would visit with family and many many friends.
Tom was born on December 5th, 1946, to Joseph and Josephine Moffett of Springfield, Massachusetts. His early jobs, which he held down while in school, included working in construction. Everyone who knew Tom was well aware he was a devout patriot. After High School, Tom had a calling to serve his country. He briefly served in the United States Air Force however, during training, a medical condition was discovered prohibiting his ability to continue to serve.
Tom returned to what he knew best, the carpentry field. Throughout his career, he owned his own business for many years and even spent time teaching carpentry at Springfield Trade High School. Throughout all his accomplishments, Tom was a member of the New England Carpenters Union Local 111 for 18 years as a finish carpenter before retiring in March of 2010. Tom could build or fix anything.
In a word, Tom was never one to “stand-still”, always needing to be productive. Whether creating something from nothing out of wood or metal or rebuilding anything that failed to live up to his standards. However, his passion was always boating. Throughout his adult life, Tom would work his way up the boating ladder from his modest 24 ft. Sea Ray to the 34 ft. Luhrs, 39 ft. Sea Ray and lastly their 42 ft. Egg Harbor. He would spend countless hours fishing with his family and friends, cruising the New England coastline and most importantly, the Merrimack River taking the kids and grandchildren from one swim spot to another. At the end of the day, you would often find him making his way to Strippers restaurant for the day's debrief. Tom was essentially the “Mayor” of the river while at Strippers. He had his “reserved seat” at the bar where no one else could sit. Tom was always “all in” for whatever project or hobby he was pursuing.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Joseph; mother, Josephine; his brothers, George, Joseph, James; and sisters, Lorraine and Marie.
Tom is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda Moffett of Pace, Florida; his son, Thomas J Moffett and wife Kim of Russel, Massachusetts ; his son, Jody M Moffett and wife Doreen of Beaumont Texas; his extended family Angela Thompson and husband Ken of Pace, Florida; Jay Szczebak and wife Tammy of Belchertown, Massachusetts; and Edward Szczebak of Ludlow, Massachusetts; sister, Marilyn Rondeau and husband Tom of West Springfield, Massachusetts ; sister in law, Barbra Moffett of Florence, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, James, Taylor, Lindsey, Nicholas, Haylee, Paige, Madison, Emma; and great-granddaughter, Olivia (little O).
Tom will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and was full of love for those he knew. He will be missed dearly.
