Obituary for Virgilio Correia
Virgilio Correia, 98, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2014. Born in Albufeira, Portugal to the late Manuel and Francisca (Jesus) Correia, he has lived in Ludlow for 54 years and was a former member of the Ludlow Golden Agers, and the Ludlow Senior Center. He also worked for many years at Ala-Vel before retiring. Virgilio was the beloved husband of the late Aurora (Barroso Pereira) Correia, who predeceased him in 1993; a loving father to Amandio Pereira (Maria), Antonio Correia (Anne Marie), Maria Salvador (Kenneth), all of Ludlow, Lola May (Ralph), of South Carolina, and Rosa Bagge (Daniel), of Louisiana; a dear brother to Jose Correia, Carmelita Neves and Alda Correia Martins, all of Portugal; a cherished grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of 11; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Virgilio’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Holyoke Medical Center for the compassionate care they gave to him during his stay there.
Funeral services for Virgilio will be held on Monday September 22th, 2014 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are Monday morning from 9:00-10:45am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church at 11:30am, with burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
