Obituary for Virginia (DeSousa) Monteiro
Virginia (DeSousa) Monteiro, 80, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vilarinho de S. Bento, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Sousa and immigrated to the U.S. in 1976. She settled in Ludlow where she was a faithful and devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Virginia’s many passions included crocheting, cooking, making folar, gardening, and going on walks; but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Virginia was the beloved wife of the late Luis Monteiro, who predeceased her in 1994; a loving mother to Maria Barroso, Luis Monteiro, Joe Monteiro and wife Diana, Dolores Gregorzek, and Dalia Wurszt and husband Christopher; a devoted grandmother to Antonio, Jr., Steve, Allison, Corey, Tyler, Emily, Ethan, Nathan, Hailey, Evan, Alex, and Owen; and great-grandmother to Jacob; a dear sister to Aurinda, Teresa, Dolores, Jose, Antonio, and their spouses; and also leaves loving many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Visiting hours for Virginia will be held on Friday, Nov. 22nd from 5:00-7:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday, Nov 23rd at 9:15 from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
