Obituary for Walter J. Markiewicz, Jr.
Walter J. Markiewicz, Jr., 73, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on January 18th surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ludlow, son of the late Walter and Mary (Szlosek) Markiewicz, he was a lifelong resident and 1966 graduate of Trade High School. Walter worked in the power plant at Monson Developmental Center for over 20 years from where he retired in 2012 before working for Pep Boys up until 2021. He was also active in the Ludlow community as a coach for Ludlow youth hockey and soccer, but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
Walter was the beloved husband of the late Linda (Newbury) Markiewicz, who predeceased him in 2012; a loving father to Damon Markiewicz and wife Laura, of Ludlow, and the late Glenn Markiewicz (2017); a dear brother to Ted Markiewicz and wife Julie; a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren Amanda Bressem, Dustin, Devin, Cameron and Tyler Markiewicz, as well as his great-grandchildren Kayla Potter, Adalynn Markiewicz, Khaleesi Lopez, and the late Jocelyn Lopez. He also leaves many loving extended family members, including his niece and nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services for Walter will be held at Ludlow Funeral Home on Saturday, January 22nd. Visiting hours are from 9:30-10:45 am concluding with a service at 11:00 am, followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s memory to the American Heart Association (heart.org).
