Obituary for William E. "Bill" McKenney
William E. 'Bill' McKenney, 81, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2008. Born in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Frederick and Madeline (Cooney) McKenney, he grew up in Providence and has lived in the Ludlow area and Orlando, Fl., for over 40 years. Bill was a United States Coast Guard and Navy veteran serving his country honorably during WWII on the USS Catron in Okinawa and earning the WWII Victory, American Theatre, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and Philippine Liberation Medals. Bill was on the special police force for many years at AIC and Baystate Medical Center before retiring. He then served as a deputy for the Orlando Sheriffs Dept. and was special police for the State of Florida. Bill was the beloved husband of 39 years to Claire A. (Provost) McKenney, the loving father to Michael McKenney and his companion Debbie Giles, of Cumberland, R.I., Edward William, of Ludlow, and Daniel and his wife Kelli, also of Ludlow ; the cherished grandfather to Tara and beloved papa to Mia Rose and Danny Jr.; and uncle to Barbara Ann Holcomb, Donna Wallace, Paul Barclay and several grandnieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his silblings Donald McKenney and Barbara Barclay, as well as his daughter-in-law Christine McKenney. Friends and Family are asked to gather for a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 9:00am in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial in Providence will be held privately by the family and visiting hours will be held on Monday evening at Ludlow Funeral Home from 4-7pm.
