William J. Shea, 86, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2018. Born in Holyoke, he lived in Ludlow for many years and was a retired truck driver. William was a United States Navy veteran proudly serving his country honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was an member of VFW Post 3236, serving as past Commander and helping to recruit members for many years. He was also very active with state and national veteran’s organizations, and enjoyed his time with his fellow veterans at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. William was predeceased by his wife Madeleine (Leger) Shea in 2012, his daughter Patricia Ann Velozo, in 2013; as well as a grandson Nicolo, in 1998. He leaves his devoted daughter Helen Wagner and her husband William, of Virginia; a brother Edward Shea; 4 grandchildren: Timothy Paul Velozo, Ashley Lynn Ecklund, Sarah Ann Wagner, and William Thomas Wagner; and a great grandchild Hayden Ecklund. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 7th at 12:30pm in Ludlow Funeral Home with burial to follow with military honor’s at the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Visiting hours are Sunday from 3:00-6:00pm, and in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, Ma. 01040, or the Alzheimer's Assoc (alz.org).
