Obituary for Barbara R. (Schlichting) Ricardi
Barbara R. (Schlichting) Ricardi, 87, of Ludlow died peacefully on Wednesday August 3, 2016, with her family by her side. Born in Springfield, she lived in Ludlow for over 60 years, and was the widow of Walter Ricardi who died in 1979. Barbara was an avid reader, a talented seamstress, and fabric crafter. She spent many years contributing her time and talents to the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club. One of Barbara’s greatest joys was cooking and baking for her family. In the summer and fall her kitchen was often filled with the smell of just baked breads, especially if the zucchini crop was plentiful. Those closest to her will remember her for her selflessness. Whatever the situation, big or small, she was there asking the question “What can I do to help?" Barbara leaves two sons, David Ricardi of Feeding Hills, and Walter Ricardi of Ludlow; two daughters, Deborah Piesz and Karen Vantangoli both of Ludlow, as well as six grandchildren: Beth (Ricardi) Jarzabek, Stephen Ricardi, Erica, Jessica, and Bryan Piesz, and Nicholas Vantangoli. Barbara also leaves the six great-grandchildren she so adored: Amelia, Austin, Gavin, Sydney, Sophia, and Avery. She was predeceased by her eight siblings. At Barbara’s request, all services will be held privately by the family. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
