Obituary for Domingos Joao
Domingos João, 87, of Bostofrio, Boticas, Portugal, died December 15, 2020, in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Domingos was born October 19, 1933, the son of Belmira João and Augusto Fernandes. He spent his early years working hard to provide for his family, and later moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he lived for seven years. He then returned to Portugal and married the great love of his life, Maria Isabel, in 1971. They spent 49 happily married years together. Domingos retired from G and G Construction after many years of service, he was a joker and well-known for his witty one-liners. He loved working with his hands, he loved his Portuguese red wine, he loved playing cards, he was a great dancer, and most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He was also a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister Bertilia Gonçalves and his brother José Fernandes. Domingos is survived by his loving wife Maria Isabel; his daughters Diane João and Lucia Ferreira (and son-in-law Paulo Ferreira); and his grandchildren: Nathan, Madalyn, and Andrew Ferreira and Shaye Johnson. He also leaves behind an extended family of nephews, nieces, godchildren, and many cousins whom he all loved. His family would like to acknowledge Baystate Hospice for the compassionate care they provided for him. A walk-through visitation for Domingos will be held on Saturday, December 19, from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Ludlow Funeral Home adhering to social distancing and no contact guidelines, with a Liturgy of Christian burial celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 11 a.m. followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions in his name to: Our Lady of Fatima Church.
