Obituary for Maria DeJesus
Maria DeJesus, 93, of Ludlow was called to her heavenly home on July 18th after a long-term illness. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her during these times and ultimately gave her peace.
Maria was born in Brazil on June 22, 1928 and later moved to Portugal where she resided until the early 60’s. It was then she and her family immigrated to the United States and settled in Ludlow. Maria spent over 30 years working for a variety of companies that operated out of the Ludlow mills including Velmont, Gemini, and finally JanLynn Corporation where she retired from in 1993. She was also a devout communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church for over five decades and thoroughly enjoyed attending services each week. She enjoyed crocheting and was extremely talented at it. Over the years she gifted many of her doilies and tablecloths to her friends & family; something they will treasure forever. But to those who knew her best, Maria will be most remembered for the love and adoration she had for her family; Maria’s entire world revolved around ensuring her loved ones were cared for. She would often say the happiest years of her life were the years she spent caring for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and eventually great-great-grandchildren. Maria is predeceased by her husband, Jose; and her sons Manuel and Joseph DeJesus. She leaves behind her daughter Anna Rodrigo and son-in-law Manuel Rodrigo; her grandchildren, Yvette Aleixo and her husband Tony Aleixo, Jason Rodrigo and his wife Christina, Justin Rodrigo, and Samantha Thomas and husband Randy; her great-grandchildren Stacy Aleixo, Stephanie Smola and husband Zack, Shannon Aleixo, Antonio Aleixo, Michael Rodrigo, Jason Rodrigo, and Diana Rodrigo; her great-great-grandchildren Sophia and Cameron Smola; her daughter-in-law Cheryl DeJesus; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Augusto and Cacilda Ferreira; her niece Cristina Placzek and her husband Jeff; and many family and friends both here and in France and Portugal. Visitation will be held at Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East St, Ludlow on Thursday July 22 from 9:00-10:15am , with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by Interment in Island Pond Cemetery.
