Obituary for John Fernandes, Jr.
John Fernandes, Jr. 86, of Wilbraham, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022. Born in Ludlow, son of the late John and Amelia (Goncalves) Fernandes, he was a longtime resident before moving to Wilbraham. John was a proud United States Army Veteran and worked for over 20 years at National Blank Book Paper Company from where he retired; and in his free time, he was an avid golfer, sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and Bruins, and enjoyed bowling in his bowling leagues; but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family.
John was the beloved husband of Alice (Tuttle) Fernandes; a loving father to John Fernandes and wife Deb, Lisa Fernandes King and husband Dan, and the late Linda Landry; an adoring grandfather to Jeremy Fernandes, April Davenport, Kimberly Therrien, Michael McKelvey, and Allison and Emily King; and cherished great-grandfather to Jacob, Makayla, Sara, and Connor. John was predeceased by his former spouse and friend Sophie Fernandes and his siblings Leo, Joseph, Anthony, Americo, and Sarment Fernandes, Aida DoCarmo, Mary Morin, Aurora DeRocker, and Amelia Yelle; and he also leaves his beloved dog Pedro, many loving extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services were held privately by his family and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children or any local animal shelter.
