Obituary for Alivio “Chick” Alves
Alivio "Chick" Alves, 95, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife, Gerry, on September 7, 2022. He was born in Ludlow, MA on July 16, 1927 to the late Isabel and Anibal Alves. He was a graduate of Ludlow High School and then went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1948 during World War II. A lifelong Ludlow resident, he owned and operated his family's local store Alves Confectionery. Chick was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Ludlow Country Club, golf was his passion and his favorite pastime. Chick and his Ludlow buddies loved to get together for a morning coffee at McDonalds throughout their retirement, it was a tradition that spoke to who Chick was a loving, warm, compassionate man who loved everyone he met. Chick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine Alves (Sullivan). In addition to his parents Chick was predeceased by his brother Nick Alves, his nephew Raymond Alves and by his son Kerry Alves. He is survived by his niece Jean Cristaldi, her children Emily and Matthew Cristaldi, as well as his great niece Meghann Kincaid (Robertson), and great nephews Timothy Robertson and Jason Robertson as well as their spouses and children. The family would like to thank the caring staff at The Ivy at Ellington as well as Integra Home Health Agency. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass to be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ludlow, MA on Tuesday, September 13th at 11am followed by burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Springfield, MA.
