Obituary for John Banas Jr.
John Banas Jr., 84, longtime owner and operator of Banas Sand & Gravel and Banas Concrete Service, died peacefully on Friday, May 25, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Born in Springfield, he lived most of his life in Ludlow, and enjoyed his Polish music and spending time hunting. He served his country proudly with the US Army National Guard. John leaves his wife of 18 years, Joan (Sweeney) Banas; 2 sons, Daniel E. Banas and his wife Vicki, and John J. Banas and his wife Ann; a daughter Daphne Coelho; a stepson Kevin Cislak; and a step-daughter Melissa Start and her husband Scott; 4 grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, Joshua, and Samuel; 3 step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, and James; a sister Jennie Greene; as well as several nieces, nephews, and family members. Sadly he was predeceased by his siblings; Felix, Joseph, Sylvester, Henry, Edmund, and Stella Ziemba, and a step-daughter-in-law Joanne Cislak, who died in 2017. Visiting hours for John will be Thursday morning from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Ludlow Funeral Home followed by private burial and services for the family only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. (Alz.org.)
