Obituary for Maria "Helena" (Fonseca) Balbino
Maria “Helena” (Fonseca) Balbino, 83, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Helena was born in Baldio Alcobaca, Portugal, on August 26, 1940, to the late Jose Fonseca and Herminia Fonseca. She immigrated to the United States settling in Ludlow, MA. She was passionate about cooking, dancing, shopping, and especially spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Helena worked for many years at Spaulding Worldwide, from where she retired. Helena was the beloved wife of 64 years to Fernando Balbino; a loving mother to Fred Balbino and his wife Renée, and her devoted son David Balbino who predeceased her in 2015; an adoring grandmother “Vo” to Miranda, Marissa, and Mateo Balbino; a dear sister to Jose Fonseca and his late wife Emilia, Tila Balbino and her husband Antonio, and the late Tony Fonseca and his wife Zita Fonseca; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services for Helena will be held on Friday, July 26th. Visiting hours are from 10:30am - 12:15pm at Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial at Island Pond Cemetery.
