Obituary for John Carvalho
John Carvalho, 57, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Castelo de Aguiar, Portugal, he was the son of the late Diamantino and Ana (Valadares) Carvalho. John immigrated to the U.S. in 1980 settling in Ludlow and proudly became a United States citizen. He worked for many years for Ludlow Construction, was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his granddaughter Mariana. John was the beloved husband of 35 years to Fernanda (Rodrigues) Carvalho; a loving father to Nelson Carvalho and wife Vera, and Leonardo Carvalho and girlfriend Allie, all of Ludlow; an adoring grandfather to Mariana Carvalho; a dear brother to Ana Borges and husband Joaquim, of Ludlow, Alcidia Machado and husband Eurico, of W. Warren; Maria McCormick and husband Walter, of W. Warren; and the late Henrique Carvalho, Antonio Carvalho, and Irene Machado; and also leaves many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. John’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of both Dana Farber in Boston and Baystate Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to John and his family. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 5:00-8:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Friday, July 12th at 11:00am from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00pm in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute (dana-farber.org)
