Obituary for Manuel "Manny" Leitao
Manuel “Manny” Leitao, 54, a lifelong resident of Ludlow died peacefully Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the loving arms of his family. Born on August 3, 1954, he graduated from Ludlow High School in 1972. He received a Bachelor’s of Arts from Western New England College in 1976 and a Masters of Education from Springfield College in 1977. After teaching for several years, he and his father co-founded Leitao Insurance Agency in 1983. He later followed in his father’s footsteps as a principal of Leitao Realty. It was through his work that he willingly helped and touched so many in the town of Ludlow and beyond. Through the years he was an active member of many community organizations in Ludlow such as the Gremio Lusitano Club, Portuguese American Citizens Club, and the Chicopee Portuguese American Club. He also was an active communicant of the Our Lady of Fatima Parish. He was dedicated to his community and his faith. Manny was selfless and giving but most of all he was passionate about his family. He leaves his devoted wife Mary (Tanaka) Leitao and his beloved sons, Christopher and Bryant, all of Ludlow. He also leaves his loving parents, Francisco and Maria Gracinda Leitao of Ludlow; his father-in-law Kesao Tanaka of São Paulo Brazil; his sister Kathleen (Leitao) Bernardo and her husband James Bernardo along with their three children James, Victoria, and Veronica. He will be dearly missed by Aunts, Uncles, Godchildren, and Cousins of the Leitao, Amaral, Blomerth, Branco, Casimiro, Hogarth, Fatal, Giblin, Gomes, Gordon, Hogarth, Knox, Lopes, Manuel, Matos, Moreira, and Santos families.  Funeral services will be held Friday January 16th, 2009 from the Ludlow Funeral Home.  Family and friends are asked to gather for a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 11:00am with burial to follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 4-7pm and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manuel Leitao Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 222 Ludlow, MA. in benefit of the Lahey Clinic.
