Obituary for Ernest "Ernie" Rodrigues
Ernest “Ernie” Rodrigues left this life on December 16, 2008.  He was born in Ludlow, MA on November 12, 1922, where he lived nearly all his life. Ernie served his country in WWII as a Sergeant and member of I Company, 3rd Battalion, in the 2nd Marine division. He fought in Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa; some of the deadliest battles in the Pacific. Ernie worked for Monsanto for over thirty years.  Known as “Rod” he was an avid golfer and member of the Ludlow Country Club for over 50 years, where he “shot he age” countless times. Ernie always had a smile and was loved by all who knew him.   He was predeceased in May of this year, by his loving wife Ann. They were married for over 60 years. He was also predeceased by his sister Celeste. Ernie leaves behind an adoring fan club which includes his brother Fernando “Nundy” Batista and sister-in-law Lil, his sister-in-law Ida Saloio and her husband Manny, his brother-in-law Antonio Silva and his wife Mary of Palmer and his brother-in-law Tony Rodrigues of CT. Along with many adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, Ernie leaves his loving Godchildren Tina (Batista) Delulo and her husband Ralph of Hampden, Gilbert Gonsalves and his wife Kelly, of Chicopee, and his devoted niece, Susan (Saloio) LaMondia and her husband Tom, of East Longmeadow. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 19th, 2008 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.  Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 4-7pm.  Donations may be made in Ernie’s memory to the Holyoke Soldiers Home.
